As a massive overthinker myself - quite frankly the label ADD would probably be applicable, however I'm not a big fan of labels so I prefer to leave it undiagnosed ;) - I know what it's like to have thoughts racing by like traffic on a highway during peak hour. Really, I do.
And I also know this leads many to believe that 'meditation' or 'mindfulness' is not for them. Though I had to learn the hard way myself, it is exactly for you. It is exactly what that overactive monkey mind of yours needs. It is not because the bastard is so difficult to tame that we should leave it at that. On the contrary, it is essential that you train it. Whereas for other mindfulness training is a bonus, for you it's a necessity.
I'm not going to stand here and say "now that I've been meditating consistently for years, he's quiet all the time." That wouldn't be truthful. He's stil very lively, the major difference however is that I'm not defined by his erratic nature anymore. I can spot him better. I can return to the present moment and I can choose my responses much more consciously. In this way I can honestly say, building a meditation practice is probably one of the biggest lifehacks there is.
It's one thing to know this, yet a whole other playing field to actually do it, and to keep on doing it over time. Knowing how difficult it was for me to actually build a consistent practice with this overactive brain of mine, guidance isn't to be underestimated.
